Review: Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

Before reading Twilight, I probably never would have picked up a young adult book with a title like Vampire Academy. But, I've been reading quite a few young adult books lately, and really liking them, and I'd heard quite a few good things about this book (book one of a series). So, I decided to give it a try.
I'm glad I did! The vampires in this book are a lot different than in other books, and the story was really interesting.

Here's a description of the book, from Barnes and Noble

St. Vladimir's Academy isn't just any boarding school—it's a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They've been on the run, but now they're being dragged back to St. Vladimir's—the very place where they're most in danger. . . .

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy's ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world's fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

I finished this book yesterday, but before I did, I went to the bookstore to grab the next two in the series, since I knew I'd want to keep reading! The fourth book doesn't come out until August I guess, which is a bummer!

**SPOILERS**

I already started the next book in the series (I couldn't wait!), but I can't wait to see how the story continues! The relationships are interesting (the chemistry with Rose and Dimitri, wow!!) and I like the fact that through Rose we get a more personal look at Lissa's life too. I wonder if she will stay with Christian, and what role he will play as the story continues.

I enjoyed this one quite a bit, even though my husband kept making fun of the title! ;)

Rated: 4.5/5

  4. I love the serries!!! I can't believe that Dimitri and Rose finally admitted their love for eachother and they planned their life together, but now she has to kill him!!!!!!!! It's sooooooooo sad!!!! I also feel bad for Mason because he had to watch his x-girlfriend and her x-teacher do it. It must have been awful to watch!!!!!!! I even feel bad for me, because in every book people had sex.
